New Resident Representative of UNFPA presents credentials

BEIJING, China – The new Resident Representative of the United Nations Population Fund to China, Ms. Nadia Rasheed, presented her credentials to Mr. Bai Tian, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 30 December 2024.

During their meeting, they reaffirmed the long-term cooperation between the Government of China and UNFPA, and discussed commitments to the realization of the global agenda for sustainable development.

Mr. Bai acknowledged the contribution of UNFPA to China’s social and economic progress and recognized its significant role in population and development. He expressed that he looked forward to UNFPA’s continued support to the development of China, including in addressing issues related to low fertility and population ageing, and highlighted the commitment of the Government of China to supporting other countries through the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund. 

Ms. Rasheed emphasized UNFPA’s longstanding partnership with China over the past four decades and commended the role of the Government of China in advancing South-South and global cooperation for the 2030 Agenda. She reiterated UNFPA’s commitment to strengthening its collaboration with China to address population and development issues and ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health information and services. 

Ms. Rasheed brings to her role a wealth of management and policy experience covering health, gender and development issues. Prior to her appointment, She served as the Resident Representative of the United Nations Population Fund to Sierra Leone from May 2022.
