1.         Organizational Location

 

 

The Programme Assistant position is located in the China Country Office (CO) and directly reports to a Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) Specialist, under the overall supervision of the Representative and Deputy Representative.

 

The Programme Assistant provides operational programme support to the SRHR Specialist and Gender/Gender Based Violence (GBV) Analyst.  

 

 

2.         Job Purpose

 

 

The Programme Assistant contributes to the development and implementation of effective country programmes by providing administrative and analytical support. As appropriate and under the direction of the SRHR Specialist and Gender/GBV Analyst, the Programme Assistant will also contribute to research, financial management and operational and procedural guidance for efficient programme delivery.

 

 

3.         Major Activities/Expected Results

 

 

  • Assist the National Programme Officers in coordinating the UNFPA technical partnerships in the areas of SRHR and Gender/GBV;
  • Assist in the preparation, implementation and monitoring process of the country programme;
  • Ensure proper management of the SRHR and GBV filing and archiving system;
  • Identify sources, and gather and compile data and information for the preparation of documents, guidelines, speeches, policy brief and position papers;
  • Assemble briefing materials and prepare presentations for the National Programme Officers;
  • Organize, compile and process information from donors, Regional Offices, as inputs to various databases and documents; and
  • Carry out any other duties as may be required by the SRHR Specialist and Gender/GBV Analyst.

 

 

4.         Work Relations

 

 

The Programme Assistant works with and provides support to the SRHR Specialist and the Gender/GVB Analyst. Collaborates with staff and other personnel to promote achievement of common goals and shared objectives and demonstrate personal commitment to UNFPA’s mandate and organizational vision.

 

Both internal and external contacts include exchange of information on broader aspects of the work area which may include providing clarification of non-routine matters involving some technical input.

Required Competencies:

Education: 

 

Bachelor’s degree is required.

 

Knowledge and Experience:

 

  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience in programme management is required.
  • Previous experience in the UN is an advantage;
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills;
  • Computer literacy - Word, Excel, Power-point, etc.;
  • Good knowledge of Atlas / Peoplesoft or other ERP system;
  • Good writing and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment

Languages: Fluency in Chinese and English is required.
